GOVERNOR'S COUNCIL ON TOURISM TAKES TAKES MEETING “ON THE ROAD” TO SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN

 

MADISON, Wis. (May 5, 2008) - The Governor’s Council on Tourism will bring their bi-monthly meeting to the southwest corner of the state May 7-8, 2008. The meeting includes a tour of the region on Wednesday, May 7 with stops at Villa Louis State Historic Site and the new National Brewery Museum in Potosi. Thursday, May 8 the council will hold its regular meeting at Lancaster City Hall. Click here for the full council meeting agenda. The public and press are welcome to attend.

 

The Governor’s Council on Tourism advises the Department of Tourism Secretary on matters relating to tourism, including assisting the Secretary in formulating a statewide marketing strategy. The council consists of 14 members appointed by the Governor that serve 3-year terms.

 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 7

Reception at Villa Louis State Historic Site

Tour at Villa Louis for Tourism Council and staff

 

Villa Louis is the 1840’s Victorian estate of Hercules Dousman, a wealthy fur trader and frontier entrepreneur, and is now a State Historic Site. The home has been meticulously restored to its 1890’s appearance and is open to the public.

 

4 – 4:45 p.m.

Tour of the National Brewery Museum

209 South Main Street

Potosi

 

Scheduled to open June 2008, the National Brewery Museum offers changing exhibits covering the history of beer in America, a transportation exhibit that captures the history of the local brewing industry and a Great River Road interpretive center. In addition, the Potosi Brewery, which operated for 120 years, will re-open as a microbrewery and restaurant.

Brief program will include Village President Frank Fiorenza and Tourism Secretary Kelli A. Trumble.
