MEDIA CONTACT: Lisa Marshall Phone: 1-800-236-PLAY/7529 E-mail: pr@travelwisconsin.com; FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW WISCONSIN TOURISM GUIDE AVAILABLE FOR ATV ENTHUSIASTSMADISON, Wis. (Feb. 13, 2008) - All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) enthusiasts will have a new resource this year to help plan their Wisconsin trail-riding adventure, thanks to the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. Hot off the presses is the inaugural Wisconsin ATV Guide, a 48-page, magazine-style publication that covers 20 ATV trails and intensive-use areas around the state. The free guide can be ordered or downloaded on TravelWisconsin.com or by calling toll free 1-800-432-8747 (TRIP). Travelers can also pick up the ATV brochure at any Wisconsin Welcome Center. "We've seen tremendous growth in the popularity of this activity in the past 10 years as both families and groups of friends are drawn to our extensive trail system, our natural beauty and our outdoor tradition," Tourism Secretary Kelli A. Trumble said. "This new guide provides ATV enthusiasts with the information they need to plan a getaway and to enjoy this recreational activity safely and with minimal environmental impact." The new Wisconsin ATV Guide utilizes the same slim, easy-to-carry format as the Department's popular biking guide, with a two-page spread devoted to each trail. Listings include trail maps, trailhead locations and parking areas, as well as distances to food, gas, water and overnight accommodations. A 300-word narrative and a "Just the Facts" section offers information covering trail length, difficulty, trailhead locations, fee information, area attractions, contact phone numbers and Web addresses for more information. The section also mentions other trails near the area and notes of caution for riders relative to each trail. The guide was edited by Eric Skogman, a former editor of ATV and Snow Goer magazines. Skogman worked in conjunction with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Wisconsin ATV Association to select the trails highlighted in the guide, which include: Wild Rivers State Trail, Cattail State Trail, Tuscobia State Trail, Lincoln County ATV Trails, Valhalla Trail, Tri-County Trail, Dead Horse Trail, Iron County ATV Trails, Flambeau Trail System, Chippewa County ATV Trails, Parrish Highlands Trail, Marinette County ATV Trails, Marathon County/Burma Road Trail, Clark County ATV Trails, Jackson County/Black River State Forest Trails, Dyracuse Mound Intensive Use Area, Shawano County/Tigerton ATV Park, Kewaunee ATV Park, Oconto County/Dusty Trails and Cheese County Trail. "ATVers are avid outdoor recreationalists who plan their trips well in advance while combining their riding adventure with the other family oriented experiences that Wisconsin offers. This guide will ease their planning and make their ride more enjoyable," says Randy Harden, president of the Wisconsin ATV Association (www.watva.org). "We're pleased and proud to work with the Department of Tourism on this and any future projects that enhance the ATV riding experience."
